An urban renewal performance tells a story of community formation.

This show is the last chapter of an immersive theatre which contains seven chapters in total. The Cloud Cluster section aims to collect portraits from each audience (through the first six chapters) and project the images and videos on the "clouds", emphasizing the concretization of time. With the reappearance of participants’ engagement through the earlier chapters, the feeling of combining the past and present can be emphasized.

Site Background

Mantou Mountain is regarded as one of the most famous villages in Hangzhou. Most of the residents here are the elderly and children, as well as some low-income workers who moved here from suburban area.

Cloud Cluster selected the small square where the residents of Mantou Mountain dry their quilts together. The long rope is set by locals and "grows" from the facade of the building to provide support for the quilt. This square is also seen as a communication area while residents gather around.

In Performance

We created a prototype of an instruction book and distributed it to local residents for their reference. The scene can encompass not only the acting space but also serve as gathering spaces for local activities.
